“Signs, signs, everywhere a sign…”

As soon as I heard this week’s topic, this song immediately popped into my mind!

I love signs and believe that we can co-create with the universe anytime we choose to. They appear to me…or I notice them the most…when I’m either relaxed or overwhelmed. I know, it seems weird since those are opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. In my relaxed state, I appreciate them as a validation of the peace and serenity I feel in that moment. Gratitude for all the abundance in my life! This happens almost always when I’m outdoors. Butterflies are a common sign that many of us receive symbolizing hope and transformation.

This past summer I constantly saw these tiny little yellow butterflies every time I went out for a walk. Yellow is the colour of the solar plexus chakra which denotes our personal power and so each time I saw these cheerful little butterflies flitting about, I took it as a sign that I am on the right path and to keep following my inner guidance.

The signs I get when I’m positive about how my life is going in that moment are like little magical gifts from the universe. Winks of encouragement and nudges to keep going.

On the other side of the spectrum, I live in my head…a lot. When I get embroiled in the “busy-ness” of life and expectations I have for myself, it can get a little stormy in there. Stress increases and I get stuck in my humanness. Paralysis by analysis. Procrastination. Overwhelm. I forget that I can ask for help. I forget that there are unlimited resources available to me. Not just in my physical world, but in the metaphysical world too! I have spiritual partners I can call on…I only have to choose to do so.

When stress or anxiety begin to impact my sleep, I know I’m overdue in asking for help. It’s time to take or make time to do those activities that allow me to open to the guidance…the signs. Grounding myself by going to the gym, meditating, journaling, going for a walk, getting a massage or Reiki. Without fail, when I do these activities, it creates the space for the signs or messages to come through.

The last couple of weeks have been a perfect example of that. Lots going on and lots on my mind. I haven’t been able to get to the gym, I’ve let my meditation practice slip. The mental energy has been building up to disrupted sleep and a feeling of heaviness. Blind to any signs or messages available to me. I forgot I could ask for help.

Last night I visited with a friend and asked for help with a situation I’m currently experiencing. We chatted and she then generously offered a Reiki session. Walking into her healing space the first thing I saw was a sign she had on the wall, “Find Joy in the Journey”. Ahhhh yes, thank you universe. Partway through the Reiki session, I got a very clear message, “Let Go”. As soon as that appeared in my mind’s eye, I felt my body follow and physically relax. I came home and had the best night’s sleep. Upon waking, the word FORGIVENESS popped into my head and I know that is meant for me. I made time to meditate this morning for the first time in a week and I feel more calm, clear, and open to finding joy in the journey.

Signs can lead us to a deeper meaning and understanding of the situations or events in our lives.

Gregg Levoy, author of Callings; Finding and Following an Authentic Life, says that noting synchronicities is an act of sacred listening and following. “Putting on a lens through which we can see our lives as a process of calls and responses…to stay in dialogue, awareness, and be willing to be seized by our encounters and what comes our way.”

And that’s the key for me…awareness. To be open to and ask for signs as a regular part of my day and not just wait for when the proverbial poop hits the fan! To utilize all the energetic resources available to me.
