Autumn Abundance

This time of year is abundant in so many ways. I live near the Niagara Escarpment and when I drive up a certain road I can see it spread out before me. Every day it’s been fun to watch the colours beginning to shift, the beautiful green carpet of trees transitioning to bursts of red, gold, and orange. Within a couple of weeks, they will be in their glory, a chorus of colour!

In the stores and markets, all the varieties of squash and root vegetables are starting to take their place which means new hearty and healthy recipes! Last week I tried out an acorn squash recipe…never in my life have I had acorn squash… and it was so delicious I’ve added it to my meal repertoire. It’s time to dust off the soup pot and crockpot as the temperature starts to dip. Pumpkins are beginning to show up on people’s porches in preparation for Hallowe’en.

I love this time of year. Thanksgiving. It’s the perfect time to pause and feel grateful for all the abundance I experience in my daily life. And this is what I am grateful for…Life.

Each day my head leaves the pillow and I have an abundance of hours to experience more of what life has to offer. Gary Zukav, author of The Seat of the Soul calls it “Life School”. I love this reference because I am an eager student! Learning to use the daily situations in my life as opportunities to grow and expand teaches me how to live not just from my head, but also from my heart.

When I feel impatient, frustrated, or upset, why am I having that reaction? What is the lesson and what does it show me about myself? Can I observe it without judging or blaming myself or others? Easier said than done some days!

But I’m so thankful that the focus and attention I have been giving to my thoughts are creating a shift. Similar to the leaves on the trees transitioning their colours, I am becoming better at transitioning my thoughts.

I can see that when I analyze, compare, judge, and resist, I create separation between myself and others. Life isn’t as smooth and I feel disconnected from the truth of what I want to create. When I appreciate, trust, allow, and have gratitude…especially when situations or people aren’t as I would like them to be (that’s where the work is for me), life has a funny way of working out.

Yesterday my Life School lesson was Patience (one that I’ve had to repeat many, many times). Today it was Trust.

And what I’m most grateful for is that I got another abundance-filled day at Life School.

What has Life School taught you today?
