When I Dance

 In Writer in Residence

Written by: Collette Cottingham; Anontropolis

My mind is open, free, full of intellect and debate. My body is light, graceful and at peace. Dancing is my meditation. You may see me dancing…but I am not there. My mind and body are in a different space. A place where the conscious is open and cleansed.

In the past my only exercise was a quick walk. There was no dance in my life. Well there was a quick “crazy dancing” to loud music in the living room. In this moment I was trying to forget my suffocation. I was a silent ornament within my life. My children were the only sparkle in my day.

Then in the blink of an eye my life changed. To deal with the “crazy stress” I was under, I danced. The stress melted to the floor. My thoughts cleared and my face beamed with happiness.

My habit of dancing made me realize the importance of taking care of myself before anything or anyone else. Dancing makes everything amazing. My thoughts and ideas are organized. My stories are created.

The connection I discovered between music, dance and writing has been a true gift. The habit of dancing has got me writing. I write every day.

Sometimes I stop in the middle of dancing to write. The story is alive and is crying for my creative energy to put it in words. The story flows from my finger tips. I am in awe and so thankful for this creative process.

All this happens when I take care of my mind, body and soul first. This creates a beautiful connection to all those around me. I am relaxed and free being a happy healthy woman.
