Smurfy Adult

I can still hum the theme song in my head. The song fills me with happiness. I was given my first Smurf when I was six. My Aunt owned a toy shop. She bought the blue creature from a company in Germany. Aunt Doris was kind enough to gift one to me. I was in love!
This little girl became obsessed. I had to have every Smurf. I looked forward each month to see what Smurf the company sent. I was filled with childhood excitement. Then came a Saturday morning cartoon followed by a clothing line. Yup I wore the clothes proudly.
I have carried the Smurfs into adult. The Smurfs taught me to love myself just the way I am. Clumsy Smurf fell quite frequently. He learned to love every quality about himself, even the clumsy side.
The Smurfs loved everyone in their village and celebrated everyone just as they were. Today I love others the way they are. We are all unique individuals. I enjoy treating others with kindness and respect. I don’t need to change people or say harsh words, love is the answer.
The Smurfs faced their fears together as a team. Facing my fears is not easy, but I am relieved once it is over. The longer I hide my fears the more it grows into a delusion. When I face my fears I become strong and grow in confidence.
The Smurfs are still with me today, in my love of others, my kindness, my confidence and my love of little things. Plus I still have my Smurf collection. I can never let go of the Smurfs!
