Simply Fresh
Written by: Collette Cottingham; Anontropolis
A warm breeze, the sun blanketing me with happiness, the perfect temperature, the smell of fresh cut grass…this glorious day filled all my senses. I nestled in the porch swing to write, but my mind was blank. I could panic and worry that my creativity was dying. Instead I checked in with my body, it needed fuel.
My summertime treat is a bowl filled with all the fresh fruit I discovered at the local Farmer’s Market. I enjoy strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, apples, bananas and kiwi. I sprinkle in a little coconut and let it chill in the refrigerator.
I soon have the fuel my body needed. I do the same thing with my salads. A lot of lettuce, some carrots, peppers, cucumbers and presto dinner is served.
These meals are simple. It doesn’t take much to give my body the nutrients it desires.
My writing has the same kind of mixture. I toss in a little of this, a little of that and throw in a twist. If the story is about Wnztar then it will definitely have a chill.
Sometimes I combine two different stories. The unique combination adds new flavorful elements and a simply story develops.
There is something about the summer, in this environment, my body, mind and creative heart crave the more simple things. I step back, listen and enjoy.
