Shock and Awe
Written by: Collette Cottingham; Anontropolis
“I had an affair.” My friend just threw that phrase out as causal conversation. I collapsed on my yoga mat. I didn’t know what to say. My jaw hanging open, said enough.
My jaw hanging open has become a regular occurrence in the last two years. It is actually quite funny. At my age I thought I had heard it all or seen it all. I was wrong!
Just yesterday a man was dancing in the street. He was wearing a bra as knee pads. I looked on in shock. Our society was failing him or was he freely expressing himself?
I am still in shock over having to go into lockdown. It was like I was living in a great fictional novel. I now realize I was living real life history.
The writer in me began to document all I experienced during the last two years. I felt like Charles Dickens, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
I experienced a lot of good during lockdown. I did things I never thought I would do, like dancing in the park . It was a year with joy, sorrow and numerous surprises. I found my jaw hanging open a lot!
I am now comfortable with being surprised and shocked. This is just another way of growing and learning. I am never to old to learn.
