Planting Presents

As spring is majestically upon us and my hands are happily plunged in the soil, I contemplate the parallels between gardening and life. I am planting seeds that I will tend to. I will spend months nurturing, watering and weeding my garden until it comes time for the harvest. The work goes in up front to reveal the splendid bounty of the future. In life, I am planting seeds of intention. That is to be present. To experience the world and actively participate rather than watching it go by or worse yet missing it go by. I am planting awareness and presence, true gifts to myself.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” -Ferris Beuller

I love this classic line. It reminds me to stay in the present. MANAWA in Huna reminds us that Now is the moment of power. Eckhart Tolle sums it up in his book “The Power of Now”. And the 80’s brilliance of Ferris Bueller reminds us to stop and smell the roses.

Just this morning on my walk I passed a tree that I pass every morning. Today it was in spectacular bloom. It won’t stay that way for long. That is the nature of spring. I dare say it is also the nature of life. What a blessing to have been present and watching to be able to marvel in its beauty.

Challenge accepted Mr. Bueller. Let’s chat come harvest time when I reap the rewards of a present life. I have a feeling it will be a plentiful harvest.
