Finding Your Dance

 In Writer in Residence

Heaviness had consumed me, the air was heavy, my body was heavy, my thoughts were heavy, and my heart was heavy. The weight was too much to bear. I laid down on the cold tile floor. The coolness of the tile helped to make it a little easier to breathe. I tried to open my eyes, but all I saw was a foggy haze. At this moment I realized my life was heavy.

Through my tears I knew I had to find something that made me happy. I had been living to please others while neglecting myself. I needed a change, but I didn’t know where to start.

I tried thinking of what brought me joy aside from friends and family. I was searching for an activity. Something that would spark my creative soul. My mind went blank.

Maybe there wasn’t anything that made me happy. There wasn’t anything I am really good at. I was frustrated and confused. I needed a joyful release.

I mentioned my dilemma to my son. “You should dance. When we crazy danced in the living room you were beaming with happiness.”

He was right! I loved dancing of any kind. Within a week I was in a dance class. When I dance the weight of the world melts away, I am smart, capable and free. I am strong, confident and light as air. All is right in my corner of the world. I found my peace.
