Consciously Parenting

What does it mean to bring your best self? For me it means being present, being conscious. It means being anchored in the present moment instead of weighed down by the past or burdened by the fear of the unknown future.

Given the current times, I see it even as a theme in my clients. Regardless of the topic they come with, some of the underlying distress is stemming from lack of being present.

Personally I see it bubble up for me in busyness, especially with balancing parenting, homeschooling, working a full-time corporate role and expanding my healing practice all from home. It’s especially important in interacting with my kids. It’s easy to be in a million places in your mind with a lot on the go. The art of conscious parenting is one I am fully experiencing and working to perfecting now. I am practicing being very present, putting down what I am doing, turning to face the kids and give them my full attention. Do I nail it every time? Heck no! Am I committed to remembering to be in the moment with them who are in their moment? Abso-frickin-lutely! Huna teaches us, “Now is the moment of power”. There you have it, “Now” is creating our future. So, “Now,” I stop, breathe, and meet my kids where they are, in this moment, face to face, eye to eye and in so doing, heart to heart.
