Vulnerability is Not Expressed in One Day

We live in a very unique place in time. Never before has mankind had the technological advances or the ability to collect knowledge as quickly as we can now. Yet the special global situation we are in at the moment with the health, social, economic as well as political challenges we are facing triggers feelings of uncertainty and lack of control. Feeling unsafe and worried has become a daily occurrence for almost anyone. What do we do with these emotions?

Hiding them is an option, but pushing them down until we become unconscious of them in order to presumably feel better not only takes up a lot of energy, it also makes us reactive. When we are in reactive mode we are not really in charge of our lives, we merely automatically react to anything that goes on around us. We might become inadvertently aggressive or fearful without even knowing why since we detached from the feeling’s true root causes. Living like that is not only a burden for the people around us, but it chips away at our own power to change our lives for the better.

Allowing our current feelings to come up and expressing them on the other hand gives us an opportunity for growth and healing. Feeling vulnerable hasn’t started with this moment. We have learned to feel unsafe before in our lives. The current situation simply brings up the parts in us that still resonate. Having those feelings come up is a positive thing if you choose to let them go rather than stuffing them back only to have them reoccur again later.

Accepting your vulnerability isn’t a fast food approach to fixing your emotions. Just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, vulnerability isn’t expressed in a day either. So give yourself time to go through the process, for feeling your feelings allows your heart to stay open, which is the best thing you will ever do for yourself. As only with an open heart will you be able to feel the joy, love and peace that you so deeply long for.
