Truer Than True; Youer Than You

 In Weekly Forum Discussion

Authenticity is what makes each and every single one of us unique, just like a snowflake. The most important lesson I have learned in my life is to stay true to myself. To be me. I have always battled with the feeling of not being good enough, and sometimes I still struggle. I have allowed myself to be sucked into self-doubt, criticism, anger, frustration, and sadness; to live in a place where the expectations on myself were too high, and as a result, I always came up short. As I grew, and as I continue to grow, I have learned what it means to be authentic.

It means never losing sight of myself, and allow myself to be accepted for who I am! And to accept others for who they are, without judgement – everyone has a story, and I want to allow them to just be. I change because I want to better myself, rather than allowing others to make me feel as though I need to change.  I stand up for what I believe in, even if someone disagrees.

Beautiful doesn’t look like a magazine cover, it comes from a beautiful heart. I put makeup on because it allows me to feel fresh, and a little more polished, not because I feel the need to change my face. I wear certain clothes because I love them, and they make me feel amazing. Some days it’s dresses and high heels, other days it’s tights and slippers. I teach my kids to be true to themselves, and I lead by example. It’s not about being a leader or a follower, it’s about being me and making my own path. Crying isn’t a weakness, it’s an emotion and an outlet, I should never feel embarrassed. I want people to sing when they feel like singing, dance when they want to dance. I want them to laugh, smile, listen, talk, hug, and kiss. We should live from our hearts, and let them be the guide.

Always remember: “Today you are YOU, that is truer than true, there is no one alive, that is YOUER than YOU!” – Dr. Seuss
