The List Goes On

 In Weekly Forum Discussion

I can honestly say that this topic has fit perfectly into the way I have been feeling.

My family and I recently took a trip to Phoenix for a getaway. We needed to bond, put everything else aside and spend time together. It was absolutely amazing and just what we needed. Coming home I quickly realized ALL the things on my to-do list and what I needed to accomplish.

Here we go! It’s December! Christmas is approaching quickly. If you know me, you would know that December is one of my favourite months. To me, Christmas is a season, not just a day. And it isn’t just about the presents under the tree. For me, it brings me joy. The music, the twinkling lights. It’s relaxing and comforting.

I am not one to keep things simple either. I do it ALL! Decorating, Christmas cards (handwritten and mailed), baking and gift giving. Not to mention the get-togethers with friends and family.

We begin by decorating early. Between hockey, horseback riding, gymnastics, school, our thriving business, we could use some calmness.

But in December it’s not just Christmas. Bella’s birthday is five days before Christmas and it’s something I will always keep separate. She deserves to have a special day for herself to celebrate her! So that is also on our plate.

Kaydn’s home hockey tournament is this weekend, and I am in charge of making up a prize basket (I am super excited about). It is both my in-laws birthdays in December as well so getting them a beautiful card and a small gift is on my list. Along with Spring hockey registration and tryouts for Kaydn. The usual everyday school and sports. Our company Christmas party is approaching (which I still have not lined up a babysitter for).

The list goes on…

I could easily get overwhelmed, which in the past would have been my go-to. Instead, I am taking one day at a time.

Yesterday, was present wrapping day. I decided to just take the whole day and get it all done. It felt like a marathon but one that I truly enjoyed. Each gift I have put together comes from the heart. Giving gifts is one of my favourite things to do. I am not one to ask what it is that person would like. Instead, I find something meaningful that I think they would appreciate. This year, I kept things simple and didn’t go crazy, but every gift that I have gotten I am super excited to give. I had also accomplished hockey registration, the gift basket, my in-laws birthdays and finishing the laundry! Yay! It was a very productive day but by the evening I was wiped! So, I finished the day off with a hot bath, a cup of golden turmeric cocoa and the Holiday Baking Championship (one of my favourite shows)!

My secret to staying level is finding the small moments for myself to recharge. Not trying to accomplish everything all at once, but rather one day, one step, one moment at a time. Taking my mornings to set my intentions and just be, to remember NOT to rush and take my time, and to fill myself with love and the things that keep me feeling joy.

December is just another month but in our home its a reminder that family, friends, health, joy and love are truly the most important things to be grateful for!
