Show the World the Light
After I was done grocery shopping I went to a public bookshelf that is set up at the market place in my area to see whether I could find an interesting read. Attracted by the colour of the cover I pulled out a book called “Warum zeigst du der Welt das Licht? Why do you show the world the light?” Wow, what a profound book title! I quickly realized that the content of the book was not that interesting to me, and I put it back to where it was before. That’s when I noticed: the titles of the two books next to it were “Leben is mehr. Life is more.” and “Das Licht. The light.” When I had read this week’s topic I had wondered if, how, and where my sign would show up. Now there it was: three book titles perfectly placed in a row in a public bookshelf – I can only assume someone wanted to be really sure I wouldn’t miss it! The interesting detail – just the week prior I had thought about being and shining the light, and what that would look like in all of us.
I recently watched the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, in which an actor previously unknown to me named Rami Malek, portrayed Freddie Mercury. He did so in a way that intrigued me. I wanted to know more about him, and I watched a few interviews with him concerning the movie. I saw a confident, yet humble and kind man whose motivation was to let the world feel the human and tender side of Freddie Mercury, to have him come alive through his performance and once again bedazzle the viewers. I think he did so fantastically. Rami Malek let his light shine by doing everything it took to let Freddie Mercury shine once more through his portrayal, including singing and movement lessons, and studying his lyrics. It was beautiful for me to watch that.
Coming back to the book titles – together they form a whole message: Why do you show the world the light, your light? Because by doing so, life becomes more, signed, the Light. If I want my life to be more than merely doing the same 50 mundane things over and over every day, if I want to have an impact on the world around me, if I want to enjoy life and live it to the fullest, the best way is to shine my light. I think we all had this light put inside of us, and it comes out when we follow our heart and our passion. Just as this actor brought a person back to life by pursuing his passion for the art of acting, I can bring light into the world by following what sparks my heart, and I even have the universe reminding me how crucial that is!
