If It’s Not the End
A good quote can be anything from a quick pick-me-up, to deeply thought provoking, to a great reminder of truth. I have always loved quotes, but regularly selecting one and finding a picture to go with it for my Instagram account offers me a chance to actively engage with them.
The quote that has stuck with me for a number of years is from Oscar Wilde:
“Everything is going to be fine in the end. If it’s not fine it’s not the end.”
A friend of mine “introduced” me to this quote. It was her all time favourite. She would quote it so often that it became a thing between the two of us. One of us would start and the other one would finish it off. That’s one of the reasons I still hold this quote dear to my heart, as it reminds me of her and the many experiences we had together.
To me, it’s a very hopeful quote. Yes, there are times in life when things aren’t the way you want them to be, or feel they should be in that moment. That’s normal and it’s called life. But, be sure that it doesn’t have to stay that way. Something can, and hopefully will, change, either with the situation or you, or even both.
It reminds me that my hard times are put in my life for a reason, and not just to make me miserable. I am meant to learn from everything in my life, the good and the bad. That might not always be easy, but it’s always worthwhile. And at the end, the hard times will dissolve, and I will be left with what I made from them!
The way my friend and I used this quote in all kinds of situations, was meant to give those heavy or just plain frustrating moments more lightness, coming from the acknowledgement that things change. Just the mere fact that we quoted it together or for each other, gave those moments a playfulness that changed us right in the moment.
The picture above is of my friend and I. Please excuse the blurriness, but it was the one I found expressed this quote best. It was taken a few years ago on a German holiday. For both of us, life wasn’t easy let alone perfect at that moment, but we didn’t allow that to spoil our day. We enjoyed ourselves so much I remember it to this day. That is what this quote is about: if your life isn’t fine yet be okay with that. Know that one day it will be, and until then enjoy the ride!
