Breathe In Awesomeness
I know, it sounds crazy. Of course, we all breathe. But I am not just talking about regular shallow breathing. The normal kind of breath we don’t think about. I’m talking about the kind of breathing that takes you from a racing heart and crazed mind, down to a relaxed, peaceful mental state.
Just breathe…
There have been many moments in my life where I felt almost like I was in the middle of a panic attack. The moments where anxiety sets in; my hands get sweaty, my heart races, my breath quickens. I get the “swallowed a rock” feeling in my stomach. I used to carry on in fight or flight mode and try my best to just deal. It didn’t work. I find once your body has been in this mode, it’s almost like it is always primed to be on defence. Anything could set this off, and I would find myself struggling to keep calm.
My head would start to pound and it felt almost as though my world would become smaller.
Until I discovered the power of deep breathing. In through my nose, out through my mouth. It has become my awesome daily habit. Yes! A good habit! The kind that I want to be addicted to! Not just to settle myself down, but to keep in a calm mental state. Much like daily exercise. With a calm mind, negative reactions are lessened, outcomes seem to be more positive and I am happier.
Upon waking, before I even get out of bed, I open my eyes and set an intention. “Thank you for another amazing day!” I lay awake for about 5 minutes going over images of what this day is going to look like. I take slow deep breaths. Oxygenate my body. It helps with making me feel more alert as well.
My favourite deep breaths are outside in the fresh air. There is just something about it. It feels clean and healing. Breathe in… Breathe out…
