Horsing Around
Well my artist date yesterday wasn’t necessarily something new but this topic did encourage me to make the time on one of the busiest days of the year to recharge me. I have to make sure – especially at this time of year – that I take time to do what I love to do. I need that time of quiet and serenity to remember why I do what I do for work – especially being so ridiculously busy at certain times of the year! – to give me time to ponder. This is time to think of creative new ways to run my business better, to have more time with my children and pets, and to live the best life that I can.
Yesterday morning I got up before the sun to get most of my work done and then handed everything over to my husband so that my daughter and I could go for a trail ride. We had the most amazing ride. She is improving every time we are out together. The horses thrive on this time also. Horses are the best beings in the world to help us be present. There is no time to think about the paperwork piled up at home when atop a horse. Not being present when riding could be very dangerous.
The horses appreciate this time to just cruise new trails and to exercise without always working in an arena also. They burn out just like we do when it’s all work and no play. When I commit to time with my horses and children I always feel like a million dollars when I get back and I know the horses do to.
Even the dog gets to come along!
We all come home relaxed but with a clear mind. The energy I have after a ride is like nothing else. On this particular ride we saw many birds but mostly Hawks and Eagles. One Hawk in particular followed us overhead for a good half hour screeching away. Such an eerie sound. It definitely caught my attention.
I know that the hawk totem message is to avoid distractions and focus on the task at hand. I needed the break to just be one with my horse and my daughter. I needed to be free of my mind, of all the thinking, even for a short time.
If you look at the top of the tree in the picture the Hawk that was following us landed right above Kadie and so we took the time to watch him for a bit. I have tons of gratitude for him letting us watch him from up close for so long teaching me that there is more to life than just work. It was the highlight of our ride.
